The "Lower Church"

When the St. John's Church (upper church) formed in East Eden, the religious heritage was both Lutheran and reformed. In 1844, under a Pastor Grabau, a church was built and organized under the name "German Lutheran Church." It was located at the foot of the hill on East Eden Road near Eckhardt. While the church no longer stands, there is still a cemetery at the location. The first trustees were Chirstian Gallman, John Heilbronn and Jacob Bauer. Elders were Phillip Miller and Phillip Rauch. The church was known as the "lower church", and was later called St. Peter's. Pictured is the church.
